Phinney Ridge is an established neighborhood located in the northern part of Seattle. This community is quiet and primarily residential. Most of the homes date from as early as the 1900s. The residents use walking as the major mode of transportation because everything is located nearby, including Green Lake Park. A craft and farmer’s market in Fremont is set up every Sunday next to the Bridge, from May to December. Green Lake is surrounded by nearly three miles of paths for biking, running and skating. Lake activities include swimming, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing or canoeing. Crew races are held on the Lake and the famous Milk Carton Derby is not to be missed. Teams build boats out of milk cartons and race them – if they still float! Green Lake residents place luminaries around the lake for the winter holidays. Children living in the communities attend Seattle Public Schools. Nearby colleges and universities include North Seattle Community College, Seattle Pacific University and University of Washington. Area parks include Woodland Park, Green Lake Park and several playground areas. Trails connect the three communities to each other, the parks and to Lake Washington.
